HellouOne voice campaigns keep going when a call drops right after it is answered

When an outbound AI call is answered and then drops before anything is said or recorded, HellouOne now retries the contact instead of closing it, and the rest of the company's contacts stay in the campaign.

Illustration of a company card with three contacts, a phone whose dropped signal loops into a retry arrow, and the same contacts still active next to a clock

Anyone who has run an outbound calling campaign knows the feeling. The phone is picked up, the line goes quiet for a second, and then the call is gone. Maybe the signal dropped in an elevator, maybe the person pressed the wrong button, maybe the network simply failed. Nobody decided anything. Nobody said no.

Until this release, a call like that could end up treated as finished in a HellouOne AI voice campaign. When the call had been answered but nothing was recorded, and the post-call summary could not tell what happened, the contact was completed. In campaigns that call several people at the same company, that also closed the company's list for everyone else on it. One bad connection could end the outreach to a whole account.

That is fixed. Here is what changed and why it matters.

What changed

An answered call where nothing was recorded, and where the summary cannot tell what happened, is now retried as a call with no conversation instead of being marked as completed. The contact goes back into the campaign for another attempt, following the same rules as any other retry.

In a company's list of contacts, that call no longer closes the list for the others. If you loaded a main contact and two backups at the same company, a dropped connection with the first one does not take the other two out of the campaign.

Which calls get another attempt

This change joins the outcomes that HellouOne voice campaigns already retried. Each retry counts as one attempt:

  • Nobody answered: no answer, busy or a failed call.

  • An answering machine picked up, unless the person had already asked not to be called again.

  • No conversation: the call was answered, but the contact said nothing after the opening or the recording notice. We explained this outcome in truthful voice campaign metrics.

  • New: the call was answered, nothing was recorded, and the summary cannot tell what happened.

The number of attempts and the wait between them are set per campaign. When a contact runs out of attempts, it ends as max attempts, so your report shows clearly who could not be reached.

What is not retried

Being clear about this matters as much as the fix itself. A person who asked not to be called again is never retried. And a person who answered, heard the message and hung up without deciding is not a dropped call: that conversation happened, so the contact is completed. The retry covers calls that were cut off before anything useful took place, not every short call.

Retries still respect calling hours

Every retry goes through the same two checks as a first call. The first is the campaign's own calling window, with its days and hours in its time zone. The second is the account's compliance rules, which are on by default in Colombia: the Ley 2300 calling hours on weekdays and Saturdays, no calls on holidays, a daily and weekly cap per number, and the do-not-call list, which is always enforced. A retry that comes due outside those hours waits. It is never dialled early.

Who benefits

  • B2B sales teams that load a main contact and backups for each company.

  • Collections and account teams that need to reach someone responsible at each client.

  • Supervisors, whose results no longer lose contacts to a network problem.

  • Campaign owners with short lists, where every contact counts.

How this works with HellouOne

This applies to outbound campaigns run by HellouOne AI voice agents, with the instructions, voice and contact lists you already set up. There is nothing to switch on: your next campaign handles dropped calls this way.

It also fits with how campaigns already handle the person on the line. The AI agent waits for the contact to speak, asks if it is talking to the right person, and moves to the next contact at the company when the person who answers does not handle the matter, as described in AI voice campaigns that wait for the right person. The retry rules make sure a technical failure is not confused with any of those outcomes.

To see the effect, open the campaign report after the first day and look at the retry and no conversation counts next to completed contacts. The campaign reports and CSV export show every contact's outcome, so you can tell which companies still have attempts left.
